Industry: Candles & Home
I am in love with today’s highlighted project. It’s textural, organic, feminine, and vintage—all things that I love. Rachel, owner of Field + Bee, had such a beautiful vision for her brand, and it was such a joy to bring it to life.
Field + Bee sells candles made from bee’s wax and is committed to making thoughtful decisions on how they create their products, where they source their packaging, and whom they partner with. They want to illuminate the declining health of our precious pollinators and educate consumers about their importance in our ecosystem. The brand for Field + Bee draws inspiration from a bygone era and grew from a love of nature and seasonal living.
The main typeface found in the primary logo for Field + Bee is a unique italic font that brings a romantic touch and helps the brand to stand out. The other font that can be seen in the secondary logos and rest of the brand is a simple sans serif that was inspired by the type used by vintage typewriters.
For the main icon, we put a spin on the bee symbol, abstracting it to reflect an art deco pottery stamp from the 1920’s. The other primary icon seen throughout the brand is an abstracted illustration of Queen Anne’s Lace that is done in a similar style to the bee. We used both of these icons to create a textural pattern that resembles vintage wallpaper. The rest of the organic, delicate, floral illustrations seen throughout were inspired by wildflowers along the roadside and a vintage plate that Rachel thrifted.
Rachel has been dreaming up this brand for a while, and it shows—this brand is so rich in vintage inspiration, and I loved every moment of bringing Rachel’s vision to life. Rachel is so kind-hearted and intentional and it shows in the way she approaches every aspect of her business. I feel so honored to have played a role in the creation of Field + Bee!
I love the collaborative process of branding when we can compile inspiration and ideas to create a design that is unique, rich in meaning, and will stand the test of time. If your brand doesn’t reflect the story behind your business and everything that inspired you to start it, I’d be honored to help you create a brand that will help your business grow in big ways and is one that you feel proud of.
